The main symbol of this city, and of the Costa Blanca region, is the Peñón de Ifach, the highest volcanic cliff in the entire Mediterranean. Another symbol of Calpe is pink flamingoes. Hundreds of these elegant birds fly here to spend winters on the salt lake, located right in the city, next to a busy highway.
